Our ‘Self-Sustained’ Home is an example of how, many different natural resources are effectively used for a sustainable home and lifestyle. We harness all possible natural resources like Solar, Wind and Micro-Hydro!
So be it a Sunny Day, Windy Day or even a Rainy Day, energy never stops!
For almost a decade, we have been enjoying these benefits to highlight; Zero Electricity Bill, Zero Water Bill, Zero Power Cuts, Organic Vegetables, Hydroponics and a Rooftop Garden all these complimented with systems like a Powered Composter, shelter for birds, and frogs etc.,
These benefits are complemented by free goodies such as 24x7 pristine rainwater and fresh flowers, vegetables and fruits from our 'terrace garden' and backyard, etc. I am sure that by adopting these practices, we can be 100% self-sustained and have abundant resources like clean water, electricity, clean air, and associated health benefits. We can effectively overcome today’s common urban challenges like pollution, poor quality food, poor quality water and poor health etc., with a change in our mindset, proactive thinking & willingness to change. “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed.”
We enjoy growing our food, some fruits and flowers for daily rituals like Pooja and decoration. Growing and harvesting fresh flowers is a fun activity and an equally rewarding one. We grow simple vegetables like Chilli, Tomatoes, Spinach, Methi, etc., or special herbs like turmeric.
Daily harvest of these flowers is sufficient not just for us, but also for many of our neighbours. So, harvest not just flowers, but also some goodwill. Right from planting saplings to taking care of them and then finally enjoying their beautiful flowers and fruits is a really enjoyable activity. Gardening is particularly helpful if you have young kids, and you want to offer them some alternative to screen time like mobile or TV addiction. One can start with a simple plant like a ‘Money Plant’ or easy-to-grow vegetables like chilli or tomato, and enjoy their every phase of growth. Gardening activity is truly a ‘fruitful’ and fun way to teach kids.
Have you seen the numerous News Articles, Videos & social media posts showing the ugly side of food production by some farmers/sellers?
We can ward off such worries by trying to grow our vegetables!
Genetically Modified, Chemically Treated, Sewage Water Cultivated / Washed vegetables are not rare these days. What if, we can grow our daily vegetable requirements right from our garden? Be it a rooftop garden, backyard garden or even hydroponics, all these options are much safer compared to pesticide-lased, chemically treated vegetables.
Most of our small family requirements are met by these methods of vegetable growing right from our home. We have adopted all these methods of 'home-farming' and try to grow whatever possible in small pots along with other conventional practices of vegetable growing. You'll be amazed by many other people’s gardening skills, which not only fulfil their requirements but many share/sell to others as well. You'll find many inspiring stories and tons of information online if you want to start growing your food and reduce the harmful effects of unhealthy vegetables. You too can try. Gardening is rewarding in many ways!

This is our concept model of an ideal "Eco-Home," which is self-sufficient and net carbon neutral in all possible ways. If these ideas are adopted, we can help the environment by addressing present-day hazards like pollution, garbage problems, water scarcity, and energy scarcity. We developed this model in 2010 and are glad that homes built on this concept are enjoying many benefits even today. We hope that many more will follow and help save nature. We offer all guidance and services free of charge / fees to those interested through www.livinghome.in as our little contribution to the field of "Self-Sustained" Life, Homes and Buildings.
